The OLIVEUP project aims to address the increasingly pressing problem of reduced fruit set and premature fruit drop in olive trees, phenomena that are exacerbated by climate change. Through the development and implementation of innovative cultivation practices, the project seeks to enhance the sustainability and competitiveness of olive growing, ensuring its resilience to emerging environmental challenges.
A central objective is the use of biostimulants and Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), which offer alternative and environmentally friendly options to improve fruit set, reduce fruit drop, and increase the productive capacity of olive groves. At the same time, the project targets the optimization of input use through the integration of new monitoring technologies and decision-support systems, contributing to a more efficient and sustainable management of crops.
In addition, the project seeks to create a framework for the dissemination of knowledge and best practices, providing producers with reliable application protocols and fostering cooperation among research institutions, farmers, and local communities. Through this collaborative approach, OLIVEUP aspires to make a meaningful contribution to strengthening the local agricultural economy, protecting the environment, and supporting the adaptation of European olive cultivation to the conditions shaped by climate change.
